Canyon de Chelly – Today In Southern History

On this date in 1864…
Kit Carson and Captain Albert Pfeiffer attacked the Navajo peacefully living in Canyon de Chelly, who had been ordered by the federal government but refused to move to the Bosque Redondo Reservation in New Mexico

1861 – Florida state troops occupied Barrancas Barracks, Fort Barrancas, the Navy Yard at Pensacola, and demanded the surrender of Fort Pickens .
