Texas Fuel Company, now Known as Texaco, was formed in Beaumont, Texas.

1798 – Mississippi became a U.S. Territory.
1861- Former Virginia congressman and unionist John Minor Botts took it upon himself to meet with President Abraham Lincoln to discuss how to keep Virginia in the Union. It didn’t work.
1862 – The Battle of Island #10, Missouri.
1862 – Second Day of the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee results in a Confederate withdrawal.
1968 - Riots continue in more than 100 US cities following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
1984 – Representatives of the Eastern and Western Cherokee Nations held their first official meeting since the 1800’s.
