Brunswick Records first recorded Mississippi blues musician Robert Leroy Johnson in a room at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Among the songs recorded were the legendary “Crossroads Blues.”

1765 – Frederick County, Maeyland, repudiated the British Stamp Act.
1863 – Federal troops overran Orchard Knob to begin their breakout from the siege of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
1964 – The International Swimming Hall of Fame was founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
1992 – Grand Old Opry star Roy Acuff died at the age of 89 in Nashville, Tennessee.
1998 – The tobacco industry signed the biggest U.S. civil settlement, a $206-billion deal to resolve remaining state claims for treating sick smokers
1998 – A federal judge rejected a Virginia county’s effort to block pornography on library computer calling the attempt unconstitutional.
2001 – The largest crowd to see a football game in Texas, 87,555 people watched the Texas Longhorns beat Texas A&M 21-7.
